A long time ago, Jan, my brother-in-law who drives a BMW 650 single, and Bruno, my other brother-in-law, who lives in Belgium and drives a Ducati, and I with the Harley Sportster, made a plan to do a nice trip in the Ardennen together. Now Jan is staying on a camping in our village, this is the perfect time to do the trip.

Bruno planned a great route in the Belgium Ardennen so first, Jan and I have to drive to Bruno's house, a few kilometer North of Brussels in Belgium. When we arrive, Bruno is not yet back from the bank he was going to but after two cups of coffee he arrives and at ten o'clock we leave to the Ardennen.

Our bikes on Brunos driveway

To make up time, we take the highway to Namen. After a small traffic jam on the ring around Brussels we can drive a constant 120 km/h so we're doing fine. For me on the Sportster with the wide handlebars and no fairing, 120 km/h is just a little to fast to be comfortable but for Bruno on the Ducati, it's a little to slow but after a short trip we are driving past Namen and leave the highway at exit 15, Jambe, right across the river Maas. We fill our tanks at the next gas station and now our trip will realy start.

Our bikes at the banks of the river Maas

From Jambe we take the N947 on the Eastern bank of the Maas, past Yvoir and then we cross the river to the West bank to Dinant. It is a wonderfull road, Great landscape and a nice smooth winding road. After driving this road for an hour or so we park the bikes on the riverbank for a small break and to take some pictures.

It surely has character!

Bruno removed the bottem half of his fairing to get a better look at the beautifull Ducati engine and get a more aggresive look. It is not the kind of bike I would buy for myself but it sure is a beautifull piece of engineering and it looks good.

After a short stop we get on the bikes again and drive to the South, following the river Maas upstream to France. The weather is good. Not real warm but it's dry and so is the road so we enjoy the long curves of the road along From Dinant on, we drove on the banks of the Maas, past Givet, into France, past Fumay until we arrive at Revin, a village in France.

At Revin we leave the Maas and we take the winding roads, climbing into the Ardennen, back to the Belgian border, in the direction of Bouillon.

Just checking the map.
