September 1998

From Quincy market we walk to a Warner Bros shop with Tweeties, Roadrunners, Daffy Duck and all kind of other cartoon figures... Then it's time to go to the park for the Folk Festival.
The festival started and we enjoy the music of some very good artists.

The Folk Festival in Boston

It is 30 degrees Celcius and the sun is shining so all the people are having a real good time. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the music is very good.

From the park we go into town again to get a drink and we end up in Newbury Street in a bar named "Friday's". After a cold Budweiser it's time to find a place to eat. In Boylston street is an pizzeria, "Pizzeria UNO Chicago Bar & Grill". It's close to the library.
I order a turkey sandwich with salad and Stanley orders a chicken sandwich with French fries. I also order a cappucino but the coffee I get is absolutely no cappucino. Strange that you can't get a decent cappucino in an Italian restaurant !

Our last American meal

After dinner we get a taxi to collect our luggage at the Days Inn hotel and then we go to the Airport to go home. After an exciting and fast taxiride, we arrive safe at Logan International Airport.

Our taxi

We are lucky that we booked a flight with British Airways. Some collegues booked a flight with NorthWest/KLM but the NorthWest pilots are on strike so they had to go home a day before the conference ended to be able to go home at all.

After waiting an hour or two, it's boarding time. First people with small children and handicapped people can enter the Boeing 747 Jumbo and then, row by row, all the other passengers. very organised!
I have a seat at the window, what I like very much. Unfortunately it's dark when we take off so after the sight on Boston by night it is a rather boring flight.
It is a five hour flight to London and then only a short flight from Heathrow to Schiphol on a Boeing 757.
Back in Amsterdam, the weather is typical Dutch, rain and a hard wind :-(
I have to wait a long time for my luggage to arrive but then I can go past customs and meet my wife and children who are waiting for me.
Finaly, after a meal at the Burger King, it's time to go home.
