From Robertville, I crossed Belgium back into Germany and then into Luxembourg. This
is where the the real nice roads began. The roads are great, the weather is very nice,
the bike is running fine and so I'm having a good time.

These are the roads I like, empty, good asphalt and winding
The most beautiful part was when when I was riding on the banks of the river Our with the
river on my left and the forest on the mountainside on my right.

I loved the winding road that followed the banks of the river Our. At one o'clock PM,
after another bend in the road, I saw the castle of Vianden in the distance, with the
dam of the powerplant in the foreground. A beautiful panorama.

Not very much later I parked my bike in the garage of Hotel Heintz on the Grand-rue 55
in Vianden (www.hotel-heintz.lu). Although I was a little bit to early, I could get the
key of my room to put my luggage in the room and change from riding to walking clothes.

On my sandals instead of my motorcycle boots, I walked to the tourist promotion office
near the river and asked directions for the cable way to the mountain next to the castle
but before that, I had a cheese sandwich and a cappuccino at a small café.
From the tourist promotion office I crossed the bridge over the river Our and walked to
the starting point of the cable way.

From the bridge it was a five minute walk to the ticket office of the cable way. I bought
a oneway ticket up and enjoyed the beautiful view on Vianden and the castle.

From the end station of the cable way, it was a twenty minute downhill walk to the castle.
The first time I visited this castel was in 1969 as a small boy. I remember it was just a ruin
but since then they did a lot of restauration and rebuilding. The main building is a solid
building now and is in use as a museum and they are working hard on other parts of the castle.

The inside of the main building is a museum now
You can spend hours in the castle because there is so much to see. I made a lot of
pictures and then I left the castle and walked back down to the city. After a nice cold
icetea, I visited the "Museum of caricature and cartoon Vianden"

Museum of caricature and cartoon
48, Grand Rue L-9410
Vianden Luxembourg
The museum is situated in an 17th century building that in itself is worth visiting so the
very funny cartoons make it even more interesting to visit.
Because I am a journalist for RegioActueel.nl I
could visit the museum for free.

There was an exhibition about men doing the housework and ofcourse some political cartoons.
It is realy worth visiting when you are in Luxembourg. You can read more (in French !) about
this museum on their website.
I wandered around Vianden a bit more and found another interesting place, "Modell Auto Shop DEN DINKY"
owned by Nico and Christiane Berrend.

Modell Auto Shop DEN DINKY
29, Rue du Sanatorium
L-9425 Vianden Luxembourg
They have a small shop that is filled with car and motorcycle models. Some very rare models that I
have never seen in shops in the Netherlands.

In a shop near the river, I bought some botles of fruitjuice and sportdrink (it is very warm so
I have to drink a lot) and drink the fruitjuice sitting on the bank of t he river Our.
Then I notice that there is something wrong with my shoes. From walking on the rocky ground around the
castle and all the kilometers I walked today, they are completely worn out and falling apart....
In the tourist promotion office I bought a detailed map of Luxembourg for my biketrip tomorrow and then,
I walked back to the hotel, and after throwing my worn out shoes in the garbage bin I took a nice long
bath to cool down a bit.
With fresh clothes on, I walked to the dining room of the hotel for dinner but first I ordered a beer
because I had a promise to fulfil.
A few days ago, Piet, one of my neighbours, who I liked very much, died suddenly. He used to spend all of his
holidays on a camping near Vianden and when I told his daughter I was going to Vianden, she asked me to
drink a beer there on his life to remember him so first I ordered a beer and drank it on Piet.

A beer to remember Piet, my neighbour.
I had a very nice dinner, drank some homemade wine and spend the rest of the evening on the terrace
behind the hotel, reading a good book (Jupiters travels) and drinking icetea.
