I was not the only one enjoying this road.....

Time for a break to enjoy the views and have a drink

The castle of Bourscheid is build on a rock that was only accessible from the North-West and the first real fortified building was build somewhere around the year 1000 but some remains found in the area are even older.

In 1350 they started building the big wall around the castle and the big "Stolzemburger" house. After 1477 some towers were build.

After 1512, when the latest Lord of Bourscheid died, it went downhill with the castle until in 1972, the ruins of the castle were bought by the government of Luxembourg and now the restoration and preservation of the castle and archeological research is going on.

I bought a entryticket to visit the castle and got a small mobilephone sized "thing" with numbers. In the castle were numbers on signs and if you press the number on the thing, you hear a voice explaining things about that part of the castle like an electronic tour guide. Nice.

The views from the big square tower of the castle were spectaculair. You could see the river Sure, meandering through the hills, the railroad track and the houses in the valley.

While climbing the stairs of this very high tower, I came to the conclusion that wearing my leather motorcycle jeans, at a temperature above 30 degrees celcius and climbing a high tower may not be the coolest idea........

Great view from the highest tower

Esch sur Sure was the next village with a castle on my list and after a short ride, I arrived in Esch sur Sure. Through a small tunnel I arrived on the banks of the river Sure and parked the bike in front of a café and had a nice cold milk-strawberry drink.

After a short walk on the banks of the river, I came to the conclusion that it was to warm to walk to the castle on the hilltop so I looked on the map for a nice road to ride and cool down a bit. On the map, I found the N27 to Ettelbruck.

The daughter of the owner of the hotel was getting her diploma this evening so the restaurant of the hotel was closed. When I was riding through Ettelbruck, it was the rush hour so I would rather be eating then riding in the rush hour traffic so when I saw a MacDonalds, the choice was easy and I stopped for dinner. I had a cold milkshake, a salad and a Big Beef Parmesano.

My MacDonalds dinner

On my ride back from Ettelbruck to Vianden, I approached Vianden from another road as the day before and from this road I had a very nice view on the castle.

Back in the hotel, I took a bath for half an hour to cool down and then walked to the terrace behind the hotel to read my book and enjoy the evening.
While I was there, five other motorbike riders arrived. They were on their way home from a trip in the Alps.

After reading some chapters in my book, I went to my room, watched TV for a while and then went to bed.
