We are all (except my oldest son who had to work) going to Ommen,
in the province Overijssel. We are going to a nice hollidayhome next
to my parents hollidayhome in the forrest just outside Ommen.

Erika and the kids are going with the Citroen BX. She'll use
the freeway to get there as soon as possible with a car filled
with children. I'll get on the Honda Gold Wing and try to avoid freeways.
I planned a nice route to Ommen. (Part 1 on the map)
I fill my tank at the local Texaco station and then I drive around
Bergen op Zoom to Halsteren and past Halsteren to Steenbergen.
In Steenbergen I get on the N641 to Kruisland.

The scenery near Kruisland
From Kruisland I drive to Oudenbosch. I drive into the center of the town to
look at the old Cathedral. A beautifull old church with a dome. A kind of
church that is rare in the Netherlands.

Back from the town center I get on the road past Standdaarbuiten to Zevenbergen,
a nice road with nice views. In Zevenbergen I get on the N285 to Wagenberg. From
Wagenberg I drive to Made where I ask for directions to Raamsdonkveer where
I hoped to find a secondary road to Hank, on the other side of the Bergse Maas,
a wide river.
Unfortunately the only bridge is the A27 freeway to Utrecht so this is the only
two kilometers of freeway I'll use.
Right across the river I leave the freeway on the exit to Hank.
After I leave the freeway, I drive past Dussen and then I get
on the N627 to Aalburg and from Aalburg I drive to Ammerzoden.

This is the area of the big rivers, a whole differend landscape then what
we have at home. Very nice roads on the twisting river dykes and nice small
villages behind the dykes. I'm having a good time driving here. (It would be even
better if the wind would not blow so hard :-(

Sluice near Aalburg
I have to take a detour because of a serious car accident on the narrow country road but
the alternative road is only a few hundred meters next to the main road so it's no problem
for me.
From Ammerzoden I get on the N322 past Kerkdriel, Dreumel, Wamelen and Beneden Leeuwen until
I arrive at the N323. The N323 has a bridge over the river Waal. I think there is a small
ferry a little more down the road but the wind is to hard for me to feel comfortable on
a small ferry on the big river.
When I'm near Aalst, I'm getting hungry so I stop at "Snackbar Vogelenzang" for lunch. I ordered
a cheesburger but they were out of cheese so I settled for a hamburger special, a coffee and
a milkshake.

Past kesteren I drive on the N233 to Veenendaal. From Veenendaal I drive to De Klomp and then
turn left onto the N224 to Ede. From Ede I get on the N304 to otterlo. Then I pass the nice
villages Hoenderloo, De Krim and the "Woeste Hoeve" until I get to Loenen.
Just before I arrive at Loenen I see a nice open space in the forrest to have a break so I
park the Gold Wing under the trees and get a nice Coka Cola out off the topbox of the Wing.
Here in the forrest the wind is not so hard so the weather is very nice here and I enjoy my
time here.

A cola break in the forrest near Loenen
After this short break I continue my ride to Loenen. At the Texaco station in Loenen I fill
my tank again. I drove exact 200 kilometer on 10,1 liter so my fuel economy is very good this
trip because of the steady speed of 80 to 90 km/h on all the secondary roads. Its my personal
economy record on this bike ;-) Then I get on the N789 to Klarenbeek and past Busseloo I get
on the N345 past Wilp and Deventer.

A nice spot between Wilp and Deventer
I expected some difficulty finding the road to Raalte in the town of Deventer but just when
I entered Deventer, it was signposted so I cross Deventer following the signs and get on the
N348 past Raalte to Ommen, my destination for today.
After 267 kilometer and six hours driving I arrive at my destination, a nice little house, next
to my parents hollidayhome in Ommen. Our car is parked next to the house but there is nobody there.
Lukily my sister is home in my parents house. She tells me that the whole family is having a walk
in the forrest. She makes a nice cup of coffee that we drink on the terace.
